Prashant Warier, CEO and Co-founder discusses the rise of healthcare AI and what the next chapter holds for Qure.ai
Earlier this year, I stood in the bitter cold at an altitude of 5,600 meters, watching an X-ray being assessed using an AI solution developed by my team. It was the first time AI had been successfully deployed at such a height, and it perfectly captured the essence of why Qure.ai exists - why my colleagues and I do what we do.
This moment was the highlight of my trek to Everest Base Camp in Khumbu, Nepal. The region is harsh, unforgiving, and remote, where people often lack access to even basic healthcare services like X-ray machines and reliable screening.
As we trekked through these remote regions, the challenges of providing healthcare were at the forefront of my mind. At the same time, during breaks in our trek, I was deep in term-sheet negotiations with Dev Khare from Lightspeed, for our fundraise (using a satellite phone) –  the investment that would enable Qure to make a real difference in places like Khumbu. Upon returning to Kathmandu, we signed the term-sheet, marking a pivotal step in our journey to revolutionize healthcare through the power of Artificial Intelligence.
Securing that investment was a key step toward addressing a larger reality: accessible and affordable healthcare remains a distant dream for billions around the world.
From Indonesia, Haiti, Nepal or Nigeria, in remote villages and prisons alike, access to healthcare should be a fundamental right. And not only in developing nations—mature healthcare systems in the US, Canada, the EU, and the UK are also facing backlogs, burnout, or a shortfall of radiologists, impacting early disease detection and quality patient care, now and into the future.
A new chapter for maturing healthcare AI
Today, I’m thrilled to announce a pivotal moment in Qure’s eight-year journey — we have successfully raised $65 million in our Series D funding round led by Lightspeed and 360 ONE Asset. This milestone marks a new chapter for Qure.ai, driven by our team's dedication towards innovation, guidance from global clinical leaders and the trust of both new and long-standing investors.
This funding doesn’t just represent capital—it’s a reflection of the belief in our mission to make healthcare accessible and transformative for people everywhere. It’s a testament to what we’ve built together and the lives we’ve touched along the way. And now, we’re poised to do so much more.
Building momentum and reach in the USA
With this support, we’re positioned to scale in the US, a region that continues to face significant challenges in terms of zip code lottery access to healthcare, low screening rates, and late disease detection. Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide, and too many lives are lost because the disease is caught too late. Our oncology suite is aimed towards causing a stage-shift. By partnering with leading healthcare providers, big pharmaceutical and medical device companies, we’re expanding access to early detection tools that can help save lives and improve the quality of care for millions.
Expanding AI innovation with patient care at the core
One of the other most exciting things about this funding is that it will enable us to deepen our investment in AI research and development. We’ve always pushed the boundaries of what AI can do in healthcare, and now we’ll be able to go even further. From advancing foundational AI models to improving clinical outcomes, our R&D efforts will continue to break new ground and provide the most cutting-edge solutions to healthcare providers, and ultimately people, around the world.
Keeping true to our philosophy & founding mission
We have always aimed to bring the power of AI to underserved communities, and this funding will allow us to do even more. Our solutions are used in over 90 countries and 3,000 sites to address critical conditions like tuberculosis, lung cancer, and stroke. This new chapter will help us reach deeper into regions where access to healthcare is still a challenge, ensuring that AI-powered early detection is not a privilege, but a right for people everywhere.
When I think about what the future holds for Qure, I am filled with a sense of responsibility and possibility. We are in a leading position to make a real difference by improving digital healthcare. Every patient we help is a reminder of why we started Qure. Early detection means more than just a medical breakthrough; it means giving someone a chance at a longer, healthier life and giving families more time with their loved ones.
